It makes some sense - Cha...I thought of that also. It makes some sense - Chazal believed that "mazalot chozerim" - the stars move independently of their spheres. Maybe if the sun is attached to a sphere, and only the sphere moves - as per the gentiles - it doesn't make sense that the sun could go above the sky at night, and never go below the earth.
